Everybody use marking tape, it is somehow part of one’s daily task. The most commonly used type is the transparent tape, whether for wrapping gifts or repairing torn paper, but that is just the usual applications. There are several kinds of specialty tapes around, particularly those related to engineering works that use the variety of adhesives and innovative materials. They can do many things from insulating splices and automotive parts to colour-coding cables.
In this article, you will read information about the popularly used ones. The details will include your tried-and-true standards, together with a few new-generation types that you might not be so familiar with. Double-Sided Tape Use this tape when you need front-and-back sticking power. This tape is widely available, especially in the common arts-and-crafts shops. But in case you are looking for that heavier-duty formulation that are strong enough to adhere a cord cover to the floor or to hang lightweight items on walls, there is something available for you. Using it is very easy, you just have to cut a length of tape, press the exposed adhesive onto the item that needs adhesive, peel off the liner, and press the second side against the surface you want it to stick to. Just be sure that you know the exact area where it should stick before you commit, else, it can be a pain to remove and re-apply the double-sided tape. Electrical Tape Electrical tapes are particularly made for electrical related works, thus it is often used by electricians. It is made of slightly stretchy PVC vinyl and is backed with a pressure sensitive rubber-type adhesive. It is best used for wire splices protection and provides that extra insulation on electrical cords. Its insulative properties are good too. The most famous colour is black but it is also available in other colours like green, red, white and yellow which you can use for colour coding purposes. Silicone Tape This type of tape is composed of a single self-fusing compound that bonds to itself, no required adhesives. The main purpose of silicone rubber tape is to provide waterproof seals and electrical insulation in wrap-style applications on hoses, cables, and other electrical components; and not for sticking one object to another. For the application, you can simply stretch and wrap it over the material to create a seal. Wait for about 24 hours, the curing period, for the silicone to form an unbreakable bond. Fibreglass Tape Fibreglass tapes are made up of aluminium foil composite or fibreglass mesh that is backed with a durable and strong adhesive. It is created for high-heat environments like industrial facilities and car engine bays. It is used as a wrap. It can keep heat-sensitive components like plastic hoses, rubber or cables from cracking, drying out, and generally being cooked like pasta. Fire Tape When building a firewall, there are steps to follow and one of them is to fill in the seams between drywall panels with a firestopping joint compound, and the easiest way to do this is to use a fire tape. A no-mess alternative for drywall mud that you can simply run over vertical and horizontal wall joints, firmly press into place with the inclusive application knife and you're done.
